Valentine’s Day is here! Whether you adore it, abhor it, or switch it out for Galentine’s Day, love is always something to be celebrated.
I don’t know about anyone else, but for me the past two years (has it really been that long?) of Covid-19 have not been the kind of environment where love seems to flourish. I ended a long-term relationship approximately fifteen minutes into the first lockdown and that means I had a lot of time for reflection. That pretty much makes me an expert in love, breakups, and how to strategically avoid bumping into your ex.
Navigating relationships can be difficult. TwinFlame is here to help. So without further ado, here’s our ultimate Valentine’s Survival Guide.
First, ask yourself what you want. Who are you when it comes to relationships? How do you prefer to receive love?
If you want the answer to that, take TwinFlame’s Love Preferences quiz located on the app under Charts & Reports – if you’re a long-time reader of our blog, you remember this from last year! Still, the way you think about relationships can change over time. You can always retake the quiz.
To recap: Love Preferences describe the way we want to express and experience love. There are five: words of affirmation, quality time, acts of service, physical touch, and receiving gifts. If you’ve found The One, you probably want to make sure you know their Love Preference.
So how do you know if you’re with The One? Well, the first rule of dating is that opposites attract. Are you and your partner Opposite or Sister Signs?
Sister signs oppose each other on the zodiac wheel. They share the same modality (which refers to its position in the season that it’s found in) but are different elements. They have similar qualities despite being very different! They can either be too polar or balance each other out. You can learn a lot from your sister sign.
Modalities: Cardinal, Fixed, Mutable
Aries (fire) and Libra (air)
Aries is a cardinal fire sign. You value individuality, are ambitious, goal-driven, and self-focused. You are high energy and can be impulsive.
Libra is a cardinal air sign. You value partnership, are patient, social, and driven to please others. You value kindness and are supportive of your partner.
For Valentine’s day, do something high energy but low stress. A concert, comedy show, or a bar you’ve never been to could be the perfect little adventure.
Taurus (earth) and Scorpio (water)
Taurus is a fixed earth sign. You value stability, have high moral values, and place a lot of importance on your possessions. You might seek comfort and physical pleasure from your partner, and have a hard time expressing emotions.
Scorpio is a fixed water sign. You value privacy, are emotionally deep, and seek out protection and intimacy from your partner. You can be mysterious, transformative, powerful, and secretive. You desire a soul connection within intimate relationships and are calculated, intense, and passionate.
This Valentine’s Day, try a fun competitive activity followed by something romantic. Mini-golf, ax-throwing, or an escape room would work for this.
Gemini (air) and Sagittarius (fire)
Gemini is a mutable air sign. You value communication and your social life. You have an insatiable need for knowledge and know a little of every subject. Gemini rules over short distance travel. You are energetic, playful, flighty, free-spirited, and adaptable.
Sagittarius is a mutable fire sign. You value your freedom and independence. You’re lighthearted, enjoy learning new subjects, and have a deep appreciation for other cultures. You are the life of the party, silly, and opinionated.
Instead of a traditional date, go on a spontaneous trip! It doesn’t need to be far, but try going somewhere you’ve never been and learn something new. Museums, local attractions, national parks, etc.
Cancer (water) and Capricorn (earth)
Cancer is a cardinal water sign. You are nurturing and a great caretaker. You have a tendency to be possessive over your partner. You desire an emotionally expressive partner that you can take care of, comfort, and security.
Capricorn is a cardinal earth sign. You’re stable, but you have a tendency to run away from your emotions. You have high standards for your partner and desire to build a solid foundation for your relationship. You’re calm, ambitious, structured, and disciplined. You need a dependable partner.
Cancer, if you are used to planning your dates, maybe it’s Capricorn’s turn. Go for an activity that gives you time to communicate and express your feelings, like hiking, or cooking a romantic dinner for two.
Leo (fire) and Aquarius (air)
Leo is a fixed fire sign. You can be theatrical, flamboyant, and prideful. You enjoy the spotlight and want a partner that shows you off. You might enjoy flings or lighthearted connections. You have a tendency to put yourself before your partner and you enjoy attention.
Aquarius is a fixed air sign. You are detached, aloof, and innovative. You enjoy attention as much as Leo but don’t express it. You look for partners that allow you space and freedom. You love to socialize, but have a hard time expressing feelings and tend to be emotionally reserved.
Whatever you do for Valentine’s should be Instagrammable – think a fancy restaurant, an art gallery, a spa day. Don’t forget to come up with a heartfelt caption.
Virgo (earth) and Pisces (water)
Virgo is a mutable earth sign. You are methodical, calm, focused, and grounded. You have a tendency to be critical towards yourself and your partner. You have a strong work ethic and desire high praise. You can be emotionally reserved.
Pisces is a mutable water sign. You are imaginative, creative, and empathetic, but can have a hard time grounding yourself. You enjoy creating but have a hard time following through. You’re deeply sensitive, need to express your emotions, and can struggle with projecting your fantasy onto others.
I’m sure you’ve planned this date in advance. If you haven’t, I bet Virgo has a backup in mind. Try a grand gesture or something over-the-top, like a large flower delivery, jewelry, a song dedicated to them, etc.
Those are all of the sister signs! If you and your partner have opposite signs, how do you feel it impacts your relationship? Or if you’re single, would you date your opposite sign? Personally, I don’t see myself dating a Pisces, but you never know.
So what have we learned? Opposites attract, and my date planning skills are being underutilized. I hope this survival guide prepares you for a great Valentine’s Day!
